Does the linkDown resets the Octets counter?

Hi,

I have serial link connecting two cisco 7206 routers. Let the routers be A and B. I was monitoring the traffic of the serial link at A. When ever the B node goes down, the ifInOctets and ifOutOctets of that particular interface(serial) at A is getting reset. Is it

the expected behaviour cisco routers?

SNMP counters can only be reset via a reload of the router. What you're describing does not sound correct.
