Dual homed PPPML & VoIP ?? Help !

Hi,

See attached .TXT document for diagram & configs !!!

We have a scenario were we have dual homed links from the Access layer (single router) to our Distribution layer (dual routers).

Problem is voice traffic does not sound good over these links (break-up) and I have to fix it. I know that ideally we should run multi-chassis MLPPP but we do not have a third router to resequence the packets.

How can I get the voice traffic to only use one of the links and should that link fail have the traffic failed over to the second link ? I need to achieve this while still load balancing/sharing the normal data traffic.

Routing protocol used is OSFP.

Any ideas ???

Thanks

mips

You can use any of the QOS mechanisms to prioritise the voice traffic.

Hi mips,

Sound like your voice packets arrived out of order.

I think PBR (policy based routing) might help you.

Your distribution routers connected to the same segment/LAN?

Best regards,

Oleg.

Hi Oleg,

Yes, both distribution routers are on the same LAN segment/VLAN.

Can you point me towards any links on CCO ?

Thanks

Hi Mips,

Here is Cisco guide how to setup PBR:

On distribution routers are you using HSRP or they load balance outgoing traffic too?

Best regards,

Oleg.

Hi Oleg,

Thanks for the link, I'll have a look at it.

No HSRP, only load balancing with OSPF.

Thanks

Hi mips,

I beleive you would also need to "remove" load balancing for voice packets on the way from Distribution routers towards branch/office router.

Best regards,

Oleg.
