I have a printer that keeps disappearing from the network. When the printer goes down the interface on the switch (3548) stays up, but the Mac Address entry is deleted from the table. I sort of have two question. First, is it normal for a port it be up, but have no Mac Address entry in the Mac Address table. Also, what would make the printer lose connection. If you ping it from a PC on it's local segment if will come back to life, for a while? Any help would be great.

MAc address in the table has certain aging time and after that it would age out. This is normal process.
So what you are seeing is absolutedly fine !!!!

The mac will time out after only 5 minutes I believe . We had a similar problem so we extended the aging time to like a week and no more problem . Most switches have big enough tables that this is not a problem .
