I have a serial number of a device that begins with FDO but do not know what the device is, is there a way of seeing what a device is from the serial number?

Go HERE.
Log in with your CCO login and enter the serial number.

I do not know what the name of the device is,
This is just a record name. Type anything your heart desires. The important thing is the serial number.

Hi Ian!
You have three Cisco resources that can help you with this inquiry:
1. SNTC Portal. This portal enables you to view Serial Number and its Product ID (device type).
2. CSCC Tool. https://apps.cisco.com/CustAdv/ServiceSales/smcam/requestStatusDispatch.do?methodName=onDashboardAction You can type the serial number in the search box. And the system will display information related to a given serial number.
3. My Cisco Workspace. By adding the Customer Service Central module, you can open a Case and provide the list of serials you need the Product Id for. https://www.cisco.com/cisco/psn/web/workspace
Also, a show inventory may (or may not) bring back serial number & product name.
I hope you find the above information useful !
