No can do. I recently researched that issue and a TAC CCIE wrote to tell me that IS-IS support is not planned for any time in the future on low-end routers such as 1720. I think the 2500 is where IS-IS support begins in IOS. Even then, I think you need IP Plus.

That's not true. I've been running IS-IS on 2500's for years.

No arguement, Can't buy a 2500 from cisco hardly,
The main point is that its not supported on the 16 thru 17 series of routers.
