Is there a way to purge a deleted interface?

I am trying to rename a frame relay interface on our 7206 and 7507. When I delete the original interface it will still show the interface in a "Sho ip int brief" statement and shows the interface as "Deleted, line protocol down". Is there a way to purge these deleted interfaces without reloading the router?

Sub interfaces are really speaking software interfaces, which are created by the IOS. Once you delete them they still appear on the show ip interface brief command, unless you reload the router , it wont disapper.
