Who designates the multicast group address ? For example group 239.193.34.149 is associated with multiple vlans > is it the server applications > no where in the running config on a csco6500 native IOS (msfc02) do i see multicast addressess> the port-channels and vlans are configured for ip-pim sparse mode > igmp sh ip igrp groups ? thank you

The multicast group addresses you're seeing in your networks multicast routing tables are chosen by the senders/receivers of each group.
They represent various multicast applications, for instance a video streaming service for which the video server chooses a particular group address.
