Can someone please define for me exactly what output errors are on switch ports? Why would the switch forward a packet that it knows is damaged?
Any relevant information would be greatly appreciated...

AFAIK, output error means an output buffer overflow.

Try upping the hold queue size - this is the number of packets the router can hold during busy periods whilst trying to forward them.
Default is 40, try upping it to 100 to see if this clears the problem.
