Packet Tracer won't ping

I'm trying to learn networking to help out in my workplace. I'm taking an online course that uses Packet Tracer to reinforce concepts.

I'm trying to configure router ports and want to test my work by pinging a second device. However, when I try to ping in CLI PT jumps to a new command line. No errors or packet attempts. I was able to successfully ping from the other device to this one and both MAC addresses show up in the arp table of both devices. Though in previous attempts, both devices would do this when I tried to ping.

Connecting two ISR4321 routers with ethernet. No other devices at this time but I had the same issue connecting two PCs through a switch.

Is this a bug in PT or am I doing something wrong?

I'm using a Mid 2012 Mac running Catalina OS

PT has some issues on MAC; new PT 7.3 should be fine on the latest MAC OS but not sure 100%;

install VM Fusion and Windows and then install and run PT in Windows
