PPPoE Authentication w/ Cisco 2611

have a DSL broadband connection using PPPoE encapsulation and use a netgear router cabled from the Netgear WAN port to the Ethernet port of the cable modem to handle the authentication to my ISP. Would it be possible with any of the IOS versions to replace it with my Cisco 2611 to do this? Would it require an ADSL WIC?

YES..you need ADSL WIC card connected to dsl line from isp/telco on 2611 router in order to make 2611 router PPPoE client..

You can also run NAT on 2600 to connect more then one client to the internet..You don't need CABLE/DSL router for that.

Here is the config and more detailed information for that

Hi ,

You will need IP PLUS image to run wic-1adsl card . Make sure that you

have enough memory in the box .

Hi

You don't need the WIC-1ADSL if your modem can terminate the ADSL and have an ethernet port. In IOS release 12.2.4T or above, you can configure your router as PPPoE on Ethernet, and do the ppp authentication and the virtual dial-up. You can refer to this document:
