Problem with gigastack

I have one gigatack deployed with two Catalyst 3548 with software 12.0.5.3 WC1,

one Catalyst 3524 with software 12.0.5 XU and one Catalyst 3550 with software 12.1.8 E1.

If I issue "sh int gi 0/1" on every switches , where I have installed gigastack , I see that it works at 1000 Mbit/sec but in half duplex and I can see a lot of collisions.

Of course there isn't half mode in conf.

What can I do?

Could be it an hardware problem?

Could be it an software problem ?

Thank you

This may very well be normal behaviour. As soon as there are more than two devices in a stack, the entire stack switches to half-duplex. This is logical while the interconnected GBICS are on a bus-type network. No full-dup here!

As with conventional ethernet, a certain amount of collisions is normal. If they are extensive, you may have a hardware issue. If the collision rate is roughly between one on 10^6 and 10^4 there is not much to complain.

Leo
