Hello, I have a 2500 series (2514) with IOS 12.0(5)T. I actually want to use it for lots of practise and test. It has two AUI and two SERIAL interfaces. I do not have any serial connectors (what should I and where can i get one). I have an AUI connectors which i think works, bcos i get the line protocol up/down message when i remove and insert it (LEDs on). The problem is when i connect an RJ45 cable to the AUI i get no connection (to a 2950,3750 or laptop). Could this be a media type, speed or configuration issue. What do i do? Help, otherwise this router is useless to me and a waste.

Thanks

Toyin

Hi Toyin,

if you are connecting to a laptop you should be using a cross-over cable

Check this reference:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethernet_crossover_cable

as

In the other two cases, (2950 and 3750) you should be using a straight through cable.

These ports in the 2514 support 10/half duplex. If you fix this at both sides, you should get connectivity.

In regards to Cisco cables there are plenty of places. Just google for "cisco cables"!

Regards.
