I have two cisco 3640 routers one for mumbai and other for delhi. We have registered IP of class 10.26.11.0 and using subnet mask of 255.255.255.128.

On serial link can we use the same network with diffrent subnet like 10.26.11.0 with mask of 255.255.255.252. Currently we are using 200.200.200.0 on serial link. At mumbai we have 10.26.12.0 with mask 255.255.255.0.

The range may not overlap. You should use ip-unnumbered for that.

I would propose to use something like 192.168.x.x for the link. It does not need to be advertised anywhere so you can use what you like.

A class-C private range is the best choice for this.

Hi,

You will not be able to use 10.26.11.0 with mask 255.255.255.252 on that routers serial interface as it will give you 2 hosts .1 and .2 which are already present on your ethernet. Instead you should use 10.48.11.128 with subnet mask 255.255.255.252. In this way 10.26.11.0/25 and 10.26.11.128/30 are two different networks present on 2 separate interfaces on the same router.

use google.com search engine to see IP subnetting topics on the web

Shaheen
