Hi,
How do I check which switch does the root ID mac address belong to? Also how do I list the MAC address of the vlan on a cat6509 switch. Thanks.
sample output from access switch

sample output from 6509
Spanning tree mode RAPID-PVST+
Spanning tree type ieee
Spanning tree enabled
Designated Root 00-0e-d6-d6-ac-1f
Designated Root Priority 8192

Root Max Age 20 sec Hello Time 2 sec Forward Delay 15 sec
Bridge ID MAC ADDR 00-0e-d6-d6-a8-22
Bridge ID Priority 16384
Bridge Max Age 20 sec Hello Time 2 sec Forward Delay 15 sec
on the output above I need to find out who 000e.d6d6.ac00 and 00-0e-d6-d6-ac-1f is.

Root ID is in the first secion:
Root ID Priority 8192
Address 000e.d6d6.ac00
---
Designated Root 00-0e-d6-d6-ac-1f
Designated Root Priority 8192
To check the mac address use show mac address-table, or show interface vlan "id" and you can see the MAC of the VLAN.

Hi,
You need to follow the root port trail to get to the root bridge. In your case 3/32 is the root port. The switch connected to 3/32 could be your root or a designated bridge. If it is a designated bridge then follow it's root port towards the root.
Hope this helps!
