VTP Server Failure? What Next ?

I have 4 x Cat 6500 switches all connected by the necessary ISL trunks. Out of the 4, one is classed as the VTP Server and the other 3 are VTP clients.

.

If the VTP Server fails, such as power, and the VTP server disappears from the network, for the duration that switch is down, is there some sort of election of the 3 remaining VTP clients that determines which switch becomes Server, or do they stay as they are?? Also, how can multiple VTP servers be implemented to safegaurd against this in the future?

Thanks

The VTP clients will not go through an election procedure. They will stay as clients and should retain VLAN information unless they are reset.

Therefore, it is a good idea to have a second VTP server. Just put another switch into VTP server mode. I can't remember how the two VTP server switches interact but it certainly works OK.
