VVRP vs HSRP on Cisco 6509

Does the CISCO 6509 support VVRP? or HSRP in the only way to go?... What are the pro and cons for

each?

We are migrating from ATM core to a GIG core.....while migrating both the ATM core and GIG core have to be up and runnig 7x24.

I talked with one of our Cisco CCIE engineers earlier today. He said that you should have no concern and that the two have the same functionality.
