Hi @Ddanushkadp,

A few questions:

  • I guess you're connected via a console cable, so ... Did you check the terminal parameters for the terminal connection?
    • Speed: 9600
    • Data Bits: 8
    • Stop Bits: 1
    • Parity: None
    • Flow Control: None
  • Did you check if that console cable works? Can you test it in another switch or router?

Another common solution is to test the terminal connection with different speeds (which by default is 9600 in most of Cisco devices). This is because maybe the console speed has been changed with the "speed <speed>" line configuration command.

Hope to see your answers.

Hi @Martin

I checked them.i checked the terminal parameters and  console cable is working with other devices ether. its doesn't working with any bit speed. i tried with all of bit speeds. so would you mind may i know is there anything to do with that problem . thank you.

Hey @Ddanushkadp,

Which speeds did you test? As I can see in your print-screen the switch is giving you the characters but it's not doing it correctly. Because of that, I'm still thinking that there is something wrong with the speeds (or baud rate).

Before doing any factory default attempt, try another program, maybe Putty or SecureCRT with the following parameters:

  • Speed: <Try different speeds>
  • Data Bits: 8
  • Stop Bits: 1
  • Parity: None
  • Flow Control: <None> or <Xon/Xoff>

If that doesn't work then look at this document to perform a factory default to the switch:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/switches/catalyst-2950-series-switches/12040-pswdrec-2900xl.html

Try this and let me know.

With the console cable connected power cycle the switch. Sometimes this will work. If not it is possible the console settings have been changed and you need to factory default the switch.

Hi @ Michael

It dosen't work . may i know how do i factory default the switch without login to switch? with jumpers or something. i alredy tried with mode button.
