Re: 1601 showing bad interface

I am on my 2nd 1601 and 2nd WIC-1DSU-56k and still keep getting "Bad Interfc" . Here is the boot log. I didn't post the entire config, because it errors out upon boot - even before applying any type of config. Any ideas? Thanks

Let me add, that this was the card I was told that we needed (WIC-1DSU-56k/4), but I am thinking maybe not. We have installed a 64k DSO 4 wire circuit. Does Cisco make another card that will work on this type of circuit?

You need to upgrade the IOS to a version that supports that card. It requires Cisco IOS 12.2(4)XL or later.

Here is the cisco link that made me think I was ok on my current IOS. Where did you find your info? I may not be looking in the right place.

WIC-1DSU-56K wic is for 56K circuits. It wont work with 64k DS0 circuits. You need to get a WIC-1DSU-T1 to make it work with DS0 circuits.

I thought the WIC-1DSU-56k4 would work with a single channel DSO circuit. Here is the link I got that info from also. Thanks

The explanation of the error is:

ERROR MESSAGE NOTIFICATIONS (if any)

%C1600-4-BADINTFC (x1): Interface [dec], (0-1 Onboard interfaces 2=WIC)Invalid

interface (Unknown, Uninitialized or Bad Cookie value read)

Explanation: The router is functional; however, there is an interface that the

software does not recognize.

The card you have is the right card for your application. you will need to use 1 of the following versions of IOS:

11.2(9)P, 11.3(3)T, 12.0(1), 12.0(1)T, 12.1(1), 12.1(1)T, 12.2(1)

These are the recommended IOS per the Software advisor tool for your model of router.

Ok, I changed from my current 12.2 IOS to 12.1.1(T). I still get "Bad INTRFC" upon boot. If you scan down the boot log, you will see where states: "Serial 1 Module Self Test Finished:Passed"

Does this mean it is functional? Listed below is the current boot log after the IOS upgrade to 12.1.1(T) I have tried 3 cards and 3 1601 routers. Could it be a firmware problem? Thanks

Hello,

from your first post I gather that you have another 1601, is the card working in this one ? I think that you need the 1600-R model to support the card, not 100% sure about this. Do you have an R model to test the card with ?

Yeah, I do have two 1601's - not R though. Tried in both routers, even tried different 56k cards to no avail. They were both suppose to hook up v.35, but the customer only had a single 64k DSO installed at their remote site - so hence the 56k\64k card. Cisco shows those errors on their site, but show no solution. My solution - go with a 1750. It is coming in today and hopes are that it will not show "Bad Intrfc" Thanks
