Hi

Cisco 2960 is very similar to 2950 offering advanced quality of service (QoS), Security features with few notable differences like Performance, maximum MTU size,no of acl entries, qos policies...

would suggst to check these data sheets to know more about the same.

as per the recommendattions its best to be placed in the network edge .

Thanks

but tell me what kind of switches are better to use at network access layer ?

and my second question was "is 2960 layer 3 or no ?

Thanks.

Hi,

The 2960 is positioned for the access layer, so it is definitely a good access layer choice.

Also, the 2960 does not have layer 3 switching/ routing capabilities.

Bobby

Physically, Cat2950 utilizes GBIC modules for stacking while Cat2960 utilizes SFP modules for stacking.

keep in mind 2960 is replacement of 2950 altought cisco denies it. 2950s will not be available next years. I guess EOS (End Of Sale) and EOL (End Of Life) announcement of 2950s will be made sooner than 12-18 months.

Since their prices are same, picking 2960 would be wiser in my opinion

greetings
