I noticed there was a new image for the 3550-switches on the Cisco web site today, but I noticed that the letters had changed?
The image is called c3550-i5q3l2-tar.122-25.SE.tar
Earlier, the images always had the EA letters in them.
What does this mean? What is changed?
Solved! Go to Solution.
SE Means, software engineering.
This is a new series for the 3550 IOS with new feature sets like, Bi-directional CDP Ver-2, SSL, packet-based broadcast storm control, STP syslog messages, HTTP software upgarde.
So this is actually a good thing then :)
So this series is meant to replace the EA series?
And everybody can download and use it on their existing 3550's?
What did EA stand for?
SE doesnt mean software engineering nor does EA mean enhanced applications. The IOS naming convention is at
Each product branches IOS from mainline and has its naming convention. For example, 2950/3550/3750 had 12.1(x)EA. CAT4000 had 12.1(x)EW.
For 12.2, it branced out of 12.2(x)S train with S being Service provider. Ofcourse, switches dont support SP capabilities in full, but it still has "S" to keep naming convention consistent
Hope this helps
