On a Catalyst 6500 or 5505 you can force an SVI Interface to always be in an Up state with an autostate command, However on a Cat 3550 EMI I cant seem to make this work. What I am trying to do is set up trunks and route several vlans using SVI Interfaces. What seems to be happening is when I set up the approprate SVI and send the vlan through the trunk to an end switch the SVI will not go to an up state. When I assign the vlan to a port then plug the port in the SVI will come up. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can make the SVI Interface come up without assigning the vlan to a port and using the port as a static assigment.
Thanks

You cannot disable autostate on the CAT3550's

Is there a way to route only trunked Vlans, not vlans assigned to any port ??

"no autostate" can be applied to SVI interfaces on Cisco IOS rev 12.2(25) and above (even on the 3550).

If the interface is in a "working" trunk and allowed across that trunk then the SVI should be up . I would verify your config on both sides of the trunk . Are you creating the layer 2 vlan interfaces also when you do this ?
