Edited: I sent this switch back for a replacement... seems the flash itself has an issue.
Hi all, I need help before I punt this thing.
Here's the issue:
catalyst 3560 (WS-C3560-24PS-S)
Studying for CCNA and I wanted to upgrade the OS using xmodem...Some basic features were not available on the original image.
c3560-ipservicesk9-mz.122-37.SE1.bin (original Image - backed up)
I backed up my image to tftp and formatted my flash. (on purpose)
so I go through the steps to xmodem a new image to flash:
switch: flash_init
switch: load_helper
copy xmodem: flash:c3560-ipbasek9-mz.122-55.SE11.bin (image D-loaded from Cisco)
Transferring files... seems to work just fine for a while then..
a window pops up "transfer terminated by remote peer" or "host" depending on what console emulator I am using.
ok so I have tried 9600 BAUD, 115200 BAUD
I have tried each BAUD on TerraTerm, SecureCRT, HyperTerminal. same results.
Tried USB-Serial, and straight serial console cables. same results
Tried all on Windows 10, Windows 7, and Windows XP PCs. same results
Tried Multiple Images (including the original) - same results
Plenty of free flash as I format it between attempts. 15997952 free bytes. Largest image I am attempting is 11.5MB.
Original Image is 8.4MB, I have DLoaded one that is 7.7MB still fails.
Finally, the fail occurs every single time at 7460 Bytes of transfer on all images.
I have managed to get a 5.5MB image file to complete successfully many times. but the image is not compatible with this hardware so it will not actually boot. I thought I could use that to get TFTP working but no luck.
this is one of 5 switches I have for my CCNA learning lab so its not mission critical.
I've read many posts with suggestions of BAUD rate, WIN XP, Smaller Images, Terminal Emulators..etc. but my problem seems a little different and very specific - almost like the switch runs out of memory at that point in the transfer. not really sure.
I've already put way too much time into a switch I only paid $69 for.
But I am one of those guys who just can't let this thing beat me. I have to figure it out or throw it out.
Any thoughts will be appreciated. thanks
