Basic 3550 question

I'm new to Cisco switches and have 2 3550's that I'm trying to connect to a LAN on a different floor in our building. By doing basic configuring from the command line I can get connectivity. But the next day I go into the GUI administration, just look around, no changes intentionally made, and I lose the connectivity. The running-config was copied to the startup. Is the GUI doing something or do I have other issues? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

This is something that all new users forget.

The GUI is performing a write memory after any changes !!!

So if you have just playing around and trying things the GUI was saving the running config on the startup config. Even rebooting would not rescue.

You have to re-program the switches.

That's why I am using only the command line and not the GUI
