Hi

I'm trying to instal the above file but when its unpacked its is converted to a .mz or bin file. (c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-55.SE4.bin which dosent work when trying to ovewrite the existing file: archive download-sw /overwrite tftp://

8 -rwx 1931 Mar 1 1993 00:01:42 +00:00 private-config.text

I recently installed the ipbase9-mz which gave me SSH but I'm now aware that ipservice would be a better option for L3 routing protocols such as OSPF.

This Should allow some CCNA practice.

Many thanks I look forward to your advice.

as per the error looks like your image not able to pickup from right folder

%Error opening tftp://192.168.1.171/c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-55.SE5.bin (Timed out)

coupld of questions ; since you mentioned you able to resolve the issue using Xmodem, now you have .bin file and switch working as expected.

Thank download the file mentioned by Leo

make sure you put in right folder in TFTP, and see TFTP Server can able to ping from switch and start using that commands mentioned by Leo.

There 2 options for your ipservice to work.

1. get ipservice image .bin file and replace with ipbase change the boot variable and should work as expected for your features.

2. check dir flash:/c3750-ipservices-mz.122-25.FZ   ( do you have .bin file inside)

check the show bootvar  where it pointing.

do below commands in config mode :

no boot system

boot system flash:/c3750-ipservices-mz.122-25.FZ/ipserve.bin  ( replace ipserve.bin with above resolve of .bin file).

write and reload to test the boot.

Delete "c3750-ipbasek9-mz.122-55.SE5.bin" file first (delete /f /r flash:c3750-ipbasek9-mz.122-55.SE5.bin) and then re-run the "archive download-sw /over" script again.

Hi Leo,

I've deleted the files but I'm still having an issue loading the new file. If you look at this file it is a .bin c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-55.SE5 but when I downloaded it from cisco it was a .tar. When the file is unpacked in winrar it ends up as .mz or a bin file but I'm not sure why, to run the "archive download-sw /over" script i believe I need a tar file. I have also tried to copy the file but that didnt work either:

NOR-DSW01#copy tftp flash
Address or name of remote host []? 192.168.1.171
Source filename []? c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-55.SE5.bin
Destination filename [c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-55.SE5.bin]?
Accessing tftp://192.168.1.171/c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-55.SE5.bin...
%Error opening tftp://192.168.1.171/c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-55.SE5.bin (Timed out)
NOR-DSW01#

I tried a diffferent file but with the same output:

NOR-DSW01#copy tftp flash
Address or name of remote host [192.168.1.171]?
Source filename [c3750-ipbasek9-mz.122-55.SE5.bin]? c3750-ipbasek9-mz.122-55.SE5
Destination filename [c3750-ipbasek9-mz.122-55.SE5]?
Accessing tftp://192.168.1.171/c3750-ipbasek9-mz.122-55.SE5...
%Error opening tftp://192.168.1.171/c3750-ipbasek9-mz.122-55.SE5 (Timed out)
NOR-DSW01#

I can use xmodem which worked for the above file so I'm now unsure whats going wrong.

Look forward to your reply

1.  Download 12.2(55)SE12 from HERE.

NOTE:  Make sure to download the TAR file.

2.  Download the file into the folder the TFTP server is "watching".

3.  Use the command to unpack and upload the firmware to the switch:

archive download-sw /overwrite /image tftp://<TFTP_IP_ADDRESS>/c3750-ipbasek9-tar.122-55.SE12.tar

When I download the file it presents as a Tar: c3750-ipbasek9-tar.122-55.SE12.tar but when its unpacked it changes to this:c3750-ipbasek9-mz.122-55.SE12. I have tried different files via copy tftp flash but no joy so far:

NOR-DSW01#$/192.168.1.171/c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-55.SE5.bin flash:
Destination filename [c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-55.SE5.bin]?
Accessing tftp://192.168.1.171/c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-55.SE5.bin...
%Error opening tftp://192.168.1.171/c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-55.SE5.bin (Timed out)
NOR-DSW01#dir flash
%Error opening flash:/flash (No such file or directory)
NOR-DSW01#dir flash:
Directory of flash:/

8 -rwx 1931 Mar 1 1993 00:01:42 +00:00 private-config.text

As you can see i'm recieving a time out error but not sure why.

I have checked the root folder C:\TFTP-Root and I have connectivity in both directions There ar no images in the flash with 15988224 bytes free.

As previously mentioned I can xmodem an image but I cant see whats missing here to get this process to work.

Hi,

Ensure the TFTP service is running, any firewall are turned off on that endpoint, and you have the image in the "root folder" of the TFTP server. Look in the TFTP server logs for error messages.

Regards,

Cristian Matei.

I have copied c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-55.SE5.bin using xmodem. The tftp servers was indicating that the ip address was out of range and thats why it timed out. I have corrected that error and confiremd by copying the image back to my PC.

I'm still unsure why every time I download a Tar file is extension changes to as explained above.

I'v got two more switches to update. I'm happy to close this thread as I understand the process. Many thanks for your help and advice

if you are not looking any http based configuration, .bin file more than enough for you to upgrade.

Other switches upgrade, do traditional way, boot with exiting IOS, delete the IOS from Flash, if it  can not hold the image on your device  flash: (make sure do not reboot at this stage or power off), copy from TFTP, change the boot variable and write and reload.

Other note s :

Disable DHCP Service from TFTP Server.

get latest stable - 12.2.55-SE12 IOS

follow good document for reference :
