I purchased a used 3500 switch that has been heavily configured. I need a basic switch with no VLANS or special configuration. Which command works best? I remember using a write-erase and losing the image file and everything. I want to erase the present config and start over.

The following procedure should work:
1. write erase
2. del flash:vlan.dat (to delete vlan database)
3. reload

Hello Bruce,
Issueing a write erase will not remove the IOS image. Just the configuration data. After that you give the box a reload and it comes back with the initial config menu. It is really that simple.
