Catalyst 3550 interface routing question

I have a 3550 with GBIC interface 2 that is physically connected to the 192.168.7.0 subnet, gateway is 192.168.7.10 On GBIC interface 1 I am connected to an office via fiber. I want the new office to have static IP's in a different subnet, but I don't want to change the IP's that are in the current office. How do I specifically do this? I've fumbled around with this but those ports are switch ports and by enabling VLAN's I'm afraid I might screw something up. Is there a way to keep the GBIC 1 on the .7 physically but logically route .0 to its interface? or maybe there is a better way?

I am imagining that you are not using the trunks on the Gig interfaces.

There are 2 ways to do this:

1, Make the Vlan interfaces and assign each interface in a different vlan and assign the proper IP's.

2, make the Ports as L3 ports by using command "no switchport" under the interface configurtaion and assign the proper IP addresses.
