Catalyst 6509 Supervisor Engine 720 PWR MGMT LED

Dear Sir,

I'm troubleshooting a Catalyst 6509 with two Supervisor Engines 720.

The SUP720 in Slot 5 (Active) has the following LED indications:

STATUS = Green

SYSTEM = Green

ACTIVE = Green

PWR MGMT = Green

The SUP720 in Slot 6 (Standby) has the following LED indications:

STATUS = Green

SYSTEM = Green

ACTIVE = Orange

PWR MGMT = Off!

From this link:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a0080395a21.html#wp1059236

I understand that the PWR MGMT LED on a redundant SUP is sychronized to the active SUP. I tried a few problem isolation methods but the LED is still off! I suspect the LED itself has burned out and there's nothing wrong with the system. Is there an IOS command to verify it (the box is Native)?

Thank you.

B.Rgds,

Lim TS

Judging by your problem description, it sounds like LED burst and it is nothing to be worried out. In status of ACTIVE LED it meant that both active and standby modules are working fine. If you want more clarification check with your vendor.

Either that or it is a normal condition on the backup as the primary supervisor is actually handling the power management for the switch while it is active .
