Cisco 1841 % Authorization failed.

Hi All,

I have just received an 1841 that was bought off eBay. As usual the last owner has left the existing config on it. Usually I just do a set confreg to 0x2142 and reset, remove existing password, reset the confreg to 0x2102 and reboot. This works to the point where I can to an exec level with a router# prompt but can do nothing else without getting an "% Authorization failed." reply. I can't do a sh run or even a conf t. It seems locked. Various sites on the net point this issue to being a problem with AAA authentication but offer no solutions. Is there some workaround for this to get me full access to the IOS? I want to keep the existing config on the router so I can see what the setup is, so I don't want to do a full factory reset. Even if there is some way of copying the startup config to flash: or usbflash0: that would be good.

Cheers,

Matt.

Boot into rommon, and then set the configuration register.

Thanks Phil,

It turned out to be a rollover cable with an intermittent fault. I thought I was losing it.
