Connecting 2 router back-to-back with external CSU (no DCE/DTE cable)

I am trying to simulate a T1 link (not using DCE/DTE cable), by using a T1 CSU/DSU WIC on one router and on another router I am using an external third party CSU/DSU (Verilink). To simulate the service provider network, I connect the RJ45 cable between the two CSU network connection as follows

The line comes up, but the protocol doesn't??

Encapsulation on both serial port = hdlc

bandwith on both = 1544

WIC-T1 is line time, full rate T1, ESF/B8ZS

External CSU is internal timed, ful rate t1, ESF/B8ZS

but in this simulation, who is providing the clock for the circuit????...

yeps, you should configure clock rate
