Hi Tech guys,

I would like to confim the cisco campus logical design with core and distribution switches. we have STackwise virtual in between Distribution(9400) and Access swithes(9300). What could be the logical design in between Core to core and distrubtuion. it will be typical layer 2 or layer 3 design or we can use stackwise in Core switches.please find the sample Block diagram attached.

Core-to- Core= ? Layer 2 desing-or-Layer3-or stackwise virtual

Core- to- Disribtuion= ? Layer2-or-Layer3

Disribution-Access= Stackwise Virtual with multichasis etherchannel from Access to distribution.

please suggest cisco recommended solution in Core and distribution.

Thanks

here is the good design guide and CVD as per Cisco.

My view is :

Core to distribution L3, so L2 is Demarcation here.

Depends on Licenses you got for Access layers

If you have advanced License, the all L3 is good Practice and stable, rather L2 all over.

in that case only L2 restricted to Access Switch.

Thanks BB For reply,

Access Switches have Network Essential License.

So following Configuration will be used as per your suggested design

1- Core-Core & Core to disrtibution: Layer3 SVI

2- Access to distribution- Stackwise Virtual  and Layer2/Layer3 Boundry

Thanks.

1- Core-Core & Core to disrtibution: Layer3 SVI

BB - YES i agree here

2- Access to distribution- Stack-wise Virtual and Layer2/Layer3 Boundry

BB -

Distribution to Access also you can make L3, so you can minimize L2 Boundaries.

Network Essential License. - Support 1000 routes, so i do not believe you need more than 1000 on Access switch.

until you have different requirement ( please clarify)

I am afraid if we have this limitation because of Routed Access Layer.

• VLANs don’t span across multiple
wiring closet switches/switch stacks
(Does this impact your requirements?)

So after this limitation, distribution to distribution we have stackwise SVL Link and from access to distribtuion we have MEC with non blocking feautre.

Sure again this is end to the  requirement.

Both seems to be reasonable approach.
