I would like to plan an backup policy to the data links and i got some questions:

1) The E1 controller of Cisco AS5300 works like modems for dial conections ?

2) How could i configure an Cisco 1750 AUX port to work like an dial-bakup? What kind of modem should i use ?

Thank you.

1) E1 controller itself does not work like modems. Instead, if in your AS5300, you have this E1

controller and internal (MICA/microcom) modems, then an incoming modem call will be forwarded to those internal modems through the E1 controller.

2) You can find out quite a few links on the CCO for this purpose. A few are as follows :

http://www.cisco.com/warp/customer/793/access_dial/async_backup_dp.html

http://www.cisco.com/warp/customer/471/aux-aux-watch.html

http://www.cisco.com/warp/customer/471/mod-aux-dialout.html

Hope this helps.

Thank you, zahmed, it helpde a lot.

1) How can i determine if my AS5300 have the internal modems?

2) Is there a way to connect lots of modems in the E1 Controller ?

3) Is it possible to estabilish a connection from an AUX port to an NT RAS server?

Thank You

(1) You should see them as "terminal lines" in show ver, or as "line 1 48" or "line 1 96" etc, at the bottom of your config. OR if you do a "show modem" or "show modem ver" or anyother

show modem command, you will see what you have.

(2) You mean inside the controller card itself ? Not at all. Why would you do it anyway when you

have separate slots in your 5300 for modem cards.

(3) Its more of an NT side question but I believe so, yes.

1)YES..only If you have channelized E1 line with the digital modems in the 5300 (mica or microcom)..You can configure those modems for to accept or dialout the calls on E1 line.

2)Use follwing url for reference

configure the aux port to dialout

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/471/mod-aux-dialout.html

For dialbackup

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/793/access_dial/async_backup_14281.html

Any modem will work for aux port, You can use USR modems for that as well...Thx..Tejal
