Enabling IP forwarding on a router

Hi

We are trying a new network management program, the HP Openview Network Node Manager, which polled our Cisco routers - 1700 Series and 2500 Series. But NNM could not poll the segments beyond these routers.

We think that the problem might be that the IP Forwarding on these routers is disabled.

Could this be the problem? and if it is so, how can we enable the IP Forwarding on each of these two series?

Since IP forwarding (IP routing) is enabled by default on Cisco routers, I am doubtful that IP forwarding is disabled. But if it is, IP forwarding and be enabled using the command: ip routing

I think it is more likely to be some other issue, perhaps some entries not in the routing table. If you could provide some more information about the topology it might be helpful.

In the meantime a couple of questions that might help investigate the issue: can any other device on the segment where the HP Node Manager is located access devices on the remote segments where you are having the problem?

Can any devices on the remote segment where you are having the problem ping the address of the HP Node Manager?

Are there any access lists on interfaces of the routers which might be denying traffic to or from the HP Node Manager?

To tell you the truth, your questions are doughtful. We are checking our configuration to see exactly how is the routing procedure working.

Thank you for now.

We'll tell you about our news.

To answer this properly - we need to see the config of the routers. And as Rick mentioned you especially want to see what ACL's (lists) and other parameters are or are-not configured.
