Hello,
I am going for my CCNA and i was wondering for frame-relay does the serial interface need a ip address? I think it would need a ip, but i came access some information that says as long as it has the dlci and lmi set it should work.

It requires an IP address if you wish to route IP traffic over it, which is what is done about 99% of the time. However it is not required for the link to come up so you could configure it for Novell or bridging, for example, without an IP addresss.

Just think the OSI model.
FrameRelay is at Layer 2
and IP is at Layer 3, You may run different layer 3 protocol over FR, like IPX, etc.
