How invert stacked switches model Cisco 9300

Dear colleagues,

I have two switches connected via stack and automatically the bottom switch became the first and the top the second. Is there any way to invert it through commands?

These switches are in production now. Will there be  any impact on the settings when doing this procedure?

The switch model is Cisco 9300

  Thanks in advance.

Hi remacamelo,

you can do it with "switch x priority y" command.

Configure Priority of the switch (1-15) – 1
by default – the higher the better

** just remember you really need to do with caution.

in your case:

Catalyst9300 # switch 1 priority 15
Catalyst9300 # switch 2 priority 14

The new priority value helps determine which stack member is elected as the new active switch when the current active switch or the switch stack resets.

The new priority value takes effect immediately but does not affect the current active switch.

I Attached a documents on this subject which I think will help you a lot:

Hello pman,

Thank you for the instructions. I will schedule a date next week to perform this task and I let you know the results.

The latest question, the picture below shows the switch status. When I apply the priority command the asterisk should be changed to the switch 1?

Hi,

the stack active election will take place only if the reload is issued from the master switch.

unless and until you reload entire stack, the priority wont take effect even it configured on the switch.

Active and Standby Switch Election and Reelection

All stack members are eligible to be the active switch or the standby switch. If the active switch becomes unavailable, the standby switch becomes the active switch.

An active switch retains its role unless one of these events occurs:

  • The switch stack is reset.

  • The active switch is removed from the switch stack.

  • The active switch is reset or powered off.

  • The active switch fails.

  • The switch stack membership is increased by adding powered-on standalone switches or switch stacks.
