Hello,
I' ve a problem unpredictable on my interface bri0/0/0 (HWIC 1B-U card) on cisco 2901 : layer 1 U interface is DEACTIVATED - CO RUNNING LOOPBACK TESTS...
And with this message it's impossible to run the line. I don't understand why this error message come from.
Thank you for your help.

Can you please paste the output of the command:
sh isdn status
sh isdn active
If layer 1 is deactivated:please check cable connection and then follow these steps:
Perform the steps in this section and, after each step, issue the show isdn status command to check if Layer 1 is up (ACTIVE).
1. Issue the shutdown then the no shutdown command on the BRI interface .
2. This ensures that the BRI interface is not administratively down. You can also issue the clear interface bri number command to reset the interface.
regards
Please rate if it helps.

In fact the channel D is busy, Led NT1 is green. I've reboot the router, same thing, but the line should up only if some icmp packets are send to the other router.

can u please paste the output ..then we will see :
sh isn status

Hi Remi,
If the show isdn status command output indicates that Layer1 is DEACTIVATED, then there is a problem with the physical connectivity.
1. Issue the shutdown then the no shutdown command on the BRI interface .
2. This ensures that the BRI interface is not administratively down. You can also issue the clear interface bri number command to reset the interface.
if the problem still exits then :
It most probably TELCO problem only. I have also faced same problem once. I did all possibilities. But still it was showing deactivated. Telco also done lots of testing. They even came to my location and tested the circuit and told there is no problem at all in their part. But after a long investigation they found some problem in their switching department.
It could be a port issue also. try to swap the connection with another port or module.

That is incorrect. First of all, a BRI circuit is not a " T1 line".
Secondly, anywhere in the world excpet the US, it is normal that telco removes power to the BRI circuit after a timeout. The circuit power is then re-applied as soon a call is attempted in either deictions.

Hi Paolo,
Thanks for correction about T1 line, that was my mistake.

I did not get this point????
and what do you think ,what is the problem with this interface??
Thanks again.

You can search for more posts regarding BRI to understand what that means.
Regarding OP problem, he first update IOS, then post more information

Remi.
Out of curiosity, what country are you in?
There are several different ISDN switch types which are used, depending on what country you are in. Yours is set to basic-net3, which is only valid on NET3-ISDN switches (Some parts of Europe, norway, New Zealand). If you're in a country which uses a different switch type, you may need to change this to match. Your Telco should be able to telly ou which ISDN switch type you should use.
See the folowing document
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/11_3/feature/guide/natisdn.html
for information on available switch types. For example, as an Aussie, I use basic-ts013 for BRI and primary-net5 for PRI circuits. Mis-match of switch type can cause the interface to not come up.
Also, what type of TA is installed for your ISDN circuit? This can also cause a mis-match. Sorry if this is vague - I'm dredging up stuff I haven't used in literally 10 years from memory.
Cheers.

basic-ts013 is obsolete for Australia. I have installation there and all do work fine with basic-net3.
(config)#isdn switch-type ?
basic-1tr6 1TR6 switch type for Germany
basic-5ess Lucent 5ESS switch type for the U.S.
basic-dms100 Northern Telecom DMS-100 switch type for the U.S.
basic-net3 NET3 switch type for UK, Europe, Asia and Australia
basic-ni National ISDN switch type for the U.S.
basic-qsig QSIG switch type
basic-ts013 TS013 switch type for Australia (obsolete)
ntt NTT switch type for Japan
vn3 VN3 and VN4 switch types for France
In fact, also "basic-1tr6" is now obsolete, as well the vestigial "ntt" and "vn3" types.

Like I said, Paolo, I was dredging information from about 10 years ago :-). I haven't used a BRI in ages. I was more concerned that the original poster might be in the US, where basic-net3 won't work.
Cheers.
