- I am looking for a software that can act as a network probe and collect lan statistics traffic usage over random period of time and for a long time. It would be ideal if it could keep results in a database and have an easy way to graph results. Ideal would be to keep track over day / week /month and year and support various protocols (i.e. ftp, http, udp, etc)
- Secondly we are looking for a software that can graph link utilization (over snmp or periodically by telenet/ssh for routers firewalls.
Regards.

There are several software solutions available including Mercury, Agilent Firehunter and HP OpenView Internet Services. The later I know the best ;-) and it provides probes on Windows, Solaris, HP-UX and Linux and also integrates to SAA and CW2000 SMS. More info at http://www.openview.hp.com/products/ovis/index.html.
