Scenario: Te customer has two 3750 switches and for further redundancy + speed they decided to use the stackwise tech.
I was asked to install the stack wise cables so waht I did was
port 1 on Switch1 > port 2 on Swtich2
port 2 on Switch1 > port 1 on Switch2
restarted both switches to configure them from scratch i.e. cluster + ip and etc switch 2 was in a hung state so decided to upgrade the IOS on switch 2 as it did not match switch 1.
I got my hands on a tar file for this switch and like a idiot "copy tftp flash" the tar to the flash instead of following the follwoing command :
***************************************
archive download-sw /leave-old-sw tftp://11.11.11.11/c3750-i5-tar.122-20.SE.tar
***************************************
The old IOS was erased by me and here I am stcuk with the 3750 on the promt where it sasy
switch:
I can barely run any commands on this mode.
What I need to do is install/ extract the tar file as it comes up with a message saying no boot file system found etc...
Can anyone pelase advise.
Now I will need to two things from any expert
1) How to fix this IOS issue I caused which is embarassing
2) Did I patch the stackwise cables correctly ?
please respond any help will be greatly aprpeciated.
cheers

Try all the combinations, one should work.
You can also try downloading SecureCRT (fully functional for 30 days) and try with CRTL+BREAK.
It works here from my WindowsXP machine

3750 only support XMODEM, nor TFTP.
See this page.
Recovering from a Software Failure - Catalyst 3750 Switch Software Configuration Guide, 12.2(25)SEE
I recovered a 3750 once, xmodem download cost 2 hours, and the size of IOS is 4M.

Sadly it did work and it did not
this is what happened
the mode button came up witht he screen you would expect it to come up with than the out put below
The system has been interrupted prior to initializing the
flash filesystem. The following commands will initialize
the flash filesystem, and finish loading the operating

switch: dir
List of filesystems currently registered:
flash[0]: (read-write)
xmodem[1]: (read-only)

switch:
the old flash file i.e. the tar file is no longer in the flash and I cannot run that command dir flash: which I could do earlier
Now the prompt seems to be the same prompt with a different message compared to earlier.
so I am back to square one.
cheers

i think you restarted the switch while pressing the mode button. this will always take the switch to the recovery mode.
as i had said earlier try using the flash_init to initailize the file as indicated in the beginning of the output.
Let me know how it goes

don't try to dir the image, even if you can do it.
where 3750 stop at 'Switch:',just use
'flash_init', then
'load_helper', and
'copy xmodem: flash:image_filename.bin'
After the Xmodem request appears, use the appropriate command on the terminal-emulation software to start the transfer and to copy the software image into flash memory.
On Windows XP, use Hyper-Terminal
Transfer -- Send File
You can find the .bin image file in .tar

Hello There,
I could guess that u perform the following N.14 step described in the Recovery Procedure Document:
"Step 14 Delete the flash:image_filename.bin file from the switch."
Did u delete all the files? or delete the .tar file? only, i could guess that u must repeat the procedement, with the except of the 14th step.
On the 1st time u did it, it still working till the reload?
Did u perform the "flash_init", before the "dir flash" command ? It will not be recognizable before that command.
Hope that resolve it
Best Regards
