When cabling Cat 4000 (and 6000 too) switches, the only way to run the cables is to the right side, because otherwise they would block access to the other modules or the fan tray. When I need them on the left side, is it possible to mount the whole chassis upside down in the rack with the fan tray on the right side?

I've seen swithes and routers racked mounted in different ways, but I wouldn't recommend upside down. You could try it, but the life of the device might not last as long and it might go against warranty. You could verify by reading the manual that came with it. I hope this helps! Good luck.
