Routing for media conversion

In theory when using a router it is stated that you must have seperate networks on each side. Now I have a question. I need to get between two sites using a dedicated T1 which means I need to use a router only for media conversion from ethernet to serial back to ethernet. Do I have to use seperate networks or can I do the following? Site A ethernet 192.168.1.X site A serial 192.168.2.X Site B serial 192.168.2.X Site B ehternet 192.168.1.X.

You can use transparant bridging to achieve this. See Cisco.com for configuration examples http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios120/12cgcr/ibm_c/bcprt1/bctb.htm

So is my above example wrong? Because it seems to be working OK.

192.168.1.0 is connected to your router at site A. To reach the discontigious host on remote site B you have to cross the serial link that connects site B.

How does router A knows to reach hosts on site B when network 192.168.1.0 is local to the router?
