RSPAN over a WAN

I have 3750s on 12.2(25)SEB that I want to configure RSPAN, but I'm unable to receive the source flow on my destination port. I've included an attachment with the toplogy.

I've followed the SPAN/RSPAN doc for the 12.2(25) version of the 3750 (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/hw/switches/ps5023/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a00803947f2.html), but it appears I've missed something.

I've tried configuring my destination port as a trunk port as well as an access port for VLAN 999. Recommendations?

Hi there,

This is not possible as you have a WAN-connection in between. What you want to do here is something called ERSPAN which is only supported in the 6500/7600 platform with sup720's. Check this link:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a0080160a5a.html#wp1059619

The only thing I can think of is if you get another interface on the 2811 and 3845's, make a separate GRE tunnel over the WAN and bridge the local SPAN traffic over these..

Did it help? If so, please rate it.

Hmm.. I looked at your topology and I am not sure how RSPAN would work here. Are you extending your layer 2 topology across WAN?

Hi,

I do agree with Prashanth on this. This can only be done if you extend you L2 topology across WAN.In this scenario RSPAN will not work.

It helps in that I won't waste anymore time on this.

Thank you for your help Stig.
