Hello,
I'd like to know if we change a vtp client switch from VTP domain "a" to vtp domain "b" (VTP domain "b" currently not existing) if he will keep his vlan database and then can be turne to vtp server for domain "b" and propagating the vtp domain "a" learned vlan to his vtp domain "b" clients switches ? And of course then create new vlan for his domain.
Thanks

Yes,
That should work. VLAN database is stored on the flash and it doesnot clear out after the reboot. So i would say that Once the switch will be moved in other VTP domain and changed to server it will work.

HI
I may be wrong but to my knowledge vtp clients does not store the vlan infromation in their flash becoz they r configured as vtp clients.so if u remove the switch i think it will losse its config

Mehmood,
It stays there. I have just unplugged a VTP client from my network and If I do a show vlan on that it still has got Vlans.

Swicthes configured as client will not keep vlan data if powered off.

Hi Sancy,
If the switches are configured for vtp client and you reload the switch it will loose all the vlan information.
In VTP client mode, VLAN configurations are not saved in NVRAM
In VTP server mode, VLAN configurations are saved in NVRAM.

Yes, you are correct.
I fixed it by resetting the vtp password to null on all server switches, changing the switch to transparent and back to client.

Hello,
As one of the swithes in the new VTP domain "b" will be set as server for this domain, he will keep the database in case of reboot(old "A" domain vlans + new "B" domain vlans) and the new VTP domain "B" clients will get update from it if they reboot. Isnt'it ?
