Serial interfaces supporting HDLC and PPP

If you are not using a serial interface that supports HDLC or PPP do you have to configure a sub interface with PVC on a router and does this apply to all Cisco routers? This is the case for an 800 series router but I'm not sure if it applies to newer routers. The link to the article is below. The question comes from the frame relay portion of the article.

Thanks!

I have looked at the document that you reference. I am not sure where your question is going (what is it that you really want to know) but the direct answer to your question is that this requirement does not apply to many other Cisco routers. There are many Cisco routers (perhaps some newer and many older) with serial interfaces that do support configuration of Frame Relay on the physical interface.
