Spurious router fan failures?

Hi gang.

C3745-ENTSERVICESK9-M version 12.4(10b). ROM version 12.2(8r)T2

This router appears to be generating spurious fan failure alarms. The fan assembly has been changed for a new one, the engineer checked and was satisfied that in a physical functional sense the replacement fan assembly was definitely working, but we now have all 4 fans showing as failed. We are being told that the replacement unit is believed to be part of a batch of faulty fan assemblies and that it was a known Cisco issue. ... Has anybody got any more information on this? *Is* it a known Cisco issue??

3745 is quite an old model what went out of support

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps282/prod_end-of-life_notice0900aecd80444877.html

indipendetly from what the cause is, if you upgrade to a current model like an ISR G2 on which you can have a smartnet contract on it, to get guaranteed support, and peace of mind.

Unfortunately the customer is a third party, not part of the same company as me, and will upgrade their network or not for their own reasons, and I'm afraid that our inability to repair a fan fault effectively is not going to be one of them .

Could be an IOS bug.  Upgrade the IOS and see if it improves anything.

PS:  The ROMmon is OLD!
