Stacking two 3750X switches fail

Eric Flahaut

Level 1

Hello fellow Cisco enthusiasts.

I am trying to stack the following two switches together:

WS-C3750X-12S-S

WS-C3750X-48P-L

I have used the following IOS's on both switches:

c3750e-ipbasek9-mz.150-2.SE8.bin

c3750e-universalk9-mz.152-4.E.bin

I made sure that each switch had the same IOS, but these two switches do not seem to recognize each other.

Am I missing an incompatibility?  When I used the c3750e-universalk9-mz.152-4.E.bin IOS, I received a "major version mismatch" error.

Any thoughts?

Thank you.

Your "-L" is a LANBase switch. If so, that license, I believe, will only stack with other LANBase stack members.

No they are not.  One switch is running IOS version 15.0(2)SE8 and the other is 15.2(4)E.

Both have to run either 15.0(2)SE8 OR 15.2(4)E.

Thank you for the reply.  Both switches ran the 15.0(2)SE8 and failed.

I upgraded both switches to the 15.2(4)E and the stack failed.

Both switches are running the same IOS, but still fail to stack.

Any other ideas?

Both switches are running the same IOS, but still fail to stack.

Post the complete output to the command "sh version" from both appliances.

Thank you for the reply.

I have attached the sh ver outputs from both switches.

I believe I have found the answer.  Please see below.

From the Cisco Catalyst 3750-X and 3560-X Series Switches Data Sheet:

The Cisco Catalyst 3750-X Series Switches with LAN Base feature set can only stack with other Cisco Catalyst 3750‑X Series LAN Base switches. A mixed stack of LAN Base switch with IP Base or IP Services features set is not supported.
