TestVDB failed

Hi

I am getting a minor error i.e TestVSB failed when i run #sh module diagnsostic module 8. I am getting below error.

5) TestAsicMemory ------------------> U

6) TestEobcStressPing --------------> U

7) TestFirmwareDiagStatus ----------> .

8) TestAsicSync --------------------> .

9) TestErrorCounterMonitor ---------> .

10) TestVDB -------------------------> F

      TestVDB is failed on WS-C6500-E

Please guide me to resolve this issue.

I recall seeing this on a PoE module. I believe I had to RMA the module due to HW failure. Not sure if the error comes up for non-PoE modules or not. You did not identify what module 8 is.

Workaround/Solution

Hardware version 1.4 of Voice Daughter Boards installed on  WS-X6148-21AF and WS-X6148-45AF linecards contain new resistors which  are not affected by this problem. Additionally, hardware versions 1.0  and 1.1 of the WS-X6148-21AF and WS-X6148-45AF Voice Daughter Boards are  not affected by this problem.

Any linecard that contains a Voice Daughter Board with a hardware version     of 1.2 or 1.3, and a serial number which falls within the specified range,     is eligible for replacement. Initially there was an Upgrade Program to replace     hardware, which was expired June 2005. If you have  an affected hardware     board, please use the standard RMA process to obtain an unaffected one.

Folks,

Would it be too much to ask that there be documentation for the various Diagnostic Tests?  I have not found ANY document that provides Error Codes for these Diagnostics!!!

I do not have the WS-X6148 non-"A" blades which have been the focus of this article.  Instead, I have the WS-X6148A blades.  AND, the testVDB Diagnostic continues to fail:

Error code ------------------> 261 (DIAG_VDB_DSP_ERROR)

Unfortunately, there is no such Error Code documented ANYWHERE in the Cisco docs available online.  I do not need to RMA my sub-modules as the TestVDB tells me the PoE power supplies and controllers are PASSING their respective tests.

BUT, the TestVDB Diagnostic continues to FAIL.  This is now a multiple module, multiple HW revisions and multiple IOS related FAILURE.  TAC or PSE needs to update this issue to some form of relevance!

Can someone tell me what this means?

1) What the heck is an Error Code 261 (DIAG_VDB_DSP_ERROR)?

2) What the heck does this Error Code mean to a WS-X6148A-GE-45AF blade with WS-F6K-48-AF sub-modules at revision HW 2.3?

3) Is there some board-level component that causes this error in the "A" spin of the WS-X6148 modules?

4) Is there a version of IOS that can greatly reduce or eliminate the TestVDB failure or Error Code 261 issue?
