using my first cisco switch ..

Well i ordered a used cisco 1900 switch on ebay , the switch arrived , all ports are working , i didnt get a cable with it , so i got my old modem cable put the serial connector in my console port in switch & the other side in my LPT printer port in my PC, then i setup hyperterminal as instructed in my cisco book baurd rate etc etc ..

but i am not able to connect to the console i get a blank screen nothing else .. what am i doing wrong ? this is my first time , that y excited .. & wana make it work asap...

can you help me out here ?

You are going to need a null cable to get that working , the 1900's were different than all other cisco switches as far as connecting into them . Or you can go to radio shack and get a null adaptor to fit your serial adaptor with a straight thru cable. Also if you have internet access download Tera Term for your terminal emulator , you'll have a lot less problems than trying to get hyperterm working correctly and it's also a real good telnet client .

I thought, most 1900s did have a RJ45 port on it, unless yours is a very old model. What kind of switch is it. There should be sticker on the back or side, 1912, 1924 ?

its a wc-c1900 switch , no i dont have a rj45 connector in the back the console port is a serial port ..

sir is it possible if you can show a picture of the cable on the internet here ? give me link .

i think the cable i have is also a null cable .. just wana be sure ..
