We've been doing some lab tests with energywise and one area we have a query with is wireless based on this page - http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/wireless/ps5755/ps6301/ps6305/brochure_c02-519055_ps10195_Products_Brochure.html
WCS is shutting down the radios okay with a scheduled task, however on the POE switchport the power usage does not seem to change regardless if the radios are on or off.
Is there anything we are missing? I understand that energywise can power down the port, but we would prefer to keep the WAP online for monitoring / alert purposes.
TIA

That's normal.
My biggest "issue" for not implementing EnergyWise is the inability for the EnergyWise component(s) to power up the appliance (PoE phones, AP, etc) outside the "power down" time. For example, if we configure EnergyWise to power down after office hours, how can anyone use the phones or wireless after hours?

Thanks for the info.
If thats normal then the URL I posted is very misleading. How is it possible to make these savings that Cisco suggests?
Table 1. Measurable Cost Savings with Cisco WCS Adaptive Power Management
* 7 watts saved every hour, per access point (1250 Series) when both radios are turned off using Cisco WCS adaptive power management. The saved wattage includes power savings from the switch and power injectors that power the access point.
** $0.08 saved per kilowatt-hour for a 365 day year

Brian,
It depends how the power usage on the switch is measured, and that varies on a switch by switch basis. On the new 3750X we have an accurate metering piece to tell you exactly how much power is consumed. On previous model, it may be based on the max reserved power.
Shutting down the radio still keep the "reserved power" the same, but does not change the reportred consumption because this is based on a maximum.
Starting June 2011, it will be possible to sleep some phones (69xx, 89xx and 99xx) to less than one watt, with a "wake" button. The wake button allows the user to wake up the phone and use it even when it is powered off. It takes about a minute for the phone to be ready.
Hope this helps,
Emmanuel
