Catalyst9300 / Telemetry YANG model for understanding LAN port based activity

Hi,

I'm new to LAN analytics and started to explore Telemetry and YANG options for gathering data from Catalyst 9300. The project will involve several of those, and I'm not entirely sure about the exact software version, so I don't need to focus on the details now. I can assume now that they are running a recent IOS

What I'm looking forward to is to find a way to gather the required data to understand if specific LAN ports in an office are connected (e.g. Laptop connected to port) and if the connected client is on (e.g. there is traffic, the client has an IP, status is ON, etc.).

I found a repository of YANG models supported by Catalyst (https://github.com/YangModels/yang/tree/master/vendor/cisco/xe), but I'm not familiar with the terminology of what I'm looking for.

I also found an article that explains the overall architecture (https://blogs.cisco.com/developer/getting-started-with-model-driven-telemetry).

Open questions:

  1. Which YANG model contains an example of the LAN statistics I need to understand if a port is connected?
  2. How can I know if the connected device is ON?
  3. How to get details on the connected device (vendor, OS, IP, etc...)

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
