Dear Team,
I came across a scenario wherein I need to troubleshoot failover between the Primary - Standby Ready and Secondary - Active unit.
When checked #sh failover
I observed a difference which is absolutely not responsible for failover, however would like to get more details for it.
For the Primary - Standby ready unit
slot 0: ASA5540 hw/sw rev (1.1/8.0(5)) status (Up Sys)
and
For the Secondary - Active
slot 0: ASA5540 hw/sw rev (2.0/8.0(5)) status (Up Sys)
What is the significance of ASA hw rev number?
Thanks,
Anant

Yes, you would actually need to run the same ASA hardware revision for failover to work properly.

Thanks Jennifer..
But I think it may not be pre-requisite, coz after testing failover with different hardware revision on ASA 5540, both the asa's are observed to be working fine with proper failover.
Not sure if it is having any significance or is a pre-requisite for any other higher version security appliance...

Yeah, unfortunately it is not documented in the ASA documentation guide.
I would suggest that you open a Cisco TAC case to confirm.
