Debug Packet not on V7.0

Hello everybody,

Usually we do a lot of troubleshooting based on the the debug packet command that was found on versions previous to 7.0. It helped us a lot determining if traffic was passing through the firewall or not. However, we noticed that this command is no longer present on 7.0. We were shown the option to use the capture command, but it is not as practical. Does anyone knows how to get similar information on the console rather to transfer the info via tftp or web browser?

Many thanks,

Aaron.

The debug packet command has been deprecated from 7.0 in favour of the capture command. The capture command is a lot more powerful than debug packet, enabling you to capture traffic in complete Sniffer-type format. Plus the debug packet command puts a hefty load on the PIX CPU whereas the capture command doesn't.

You can look at the basic capture packet via the console, but there's no way to see the full detail of the packet unless you use tftp/http.
